Why can't I access Yahoo (or other Internet site)?
The Internet is a complex entity-- always changing, and even more unpredictable. Due to the way that the Internet transfers information, it is very possible that popular sites, such as Yahoo, Microsoft, and Netscape may in fact be unreachable from time to time due to intermittent network problems or a high demand on their servers at that moment. Just because a major site is unreachable does not mean the Internet is "down." It is very likely that if you simply retry the site in several minutes, everything will be fine. If this does not work, try an alternate site, such as Crusoe's Home Page or CNN. If after trying several different sites you are still having problems, feel free to call our technical support at 1-888-5-CRUSOE.
What are the primary and secondary name (DNS) servers?

- For Microsoft Internet Explorer

- Click the "Delete Files" button in the "Temporary Internet Files" section.
- Click the "Clear History" in the "History" section.
- Click OK

- Under "Advanced/Cache" or "Network Options" click the "Clear Disk Cache" button.
- Click OK
I dial up with my 56K (or 33.6K) modem, but I only connect at 49300 (or 26400).
Well, there are several possible reasons for this. One is that the modem is not reporting the speed back correctly to the computer. Another possibility is that the modem is connecting at a lower speed, but then "retraining" to a faster speed later. This is not reported to the computer. However, there are several things you can do to try and improve your connection rates.
- Simply disconnect and reconnect. This is the easiest solution, and works in many cases. Sometimes there are phone system routing problems that cause a lower bit rate.
- Make sure that the phone cable between your modem and the wall jack is 6 feet or less, and isn't coiled. These two things can create interference on the phone line that causes lower bit rates.
- If you have an external modem, check for the same kind of problems with the cable between your computer and the modem.
- If you would like to try a new modem Init string, this may solve your problem, however Crusoe does not in any way support different modem Init strings. They are provided here for your reference only. Use them at your own risk.
- Remember that a 56K connection is difficult to achieve even when everything is perfect, and that often 49300 and 56K are very close as far as speed goes.
